The star of Netflix’s Unbelievable, shares her hopes for the post‑#MeToo generation

Kaitlyn Dever is a birdlike 22-year-old in children’s Breton stripes, dungarees and hoop earrings, and I am wondering, while interviewing her, how this sweet, freckled innocent can play with such extraordinary power and persuasion a life-damaged 18-year-old rape victim in the Netflix series Unbelievable.

Because on the surface Dever is candyfloss. She was a child actor who appeared in, among other things,Bad Teacher (with Cameron Diaz) and The Spectacular Now (with Brie Larson), and her education, post elementary school, took place with tutors on glam Hollywood sets. This year, she has starred in the genius coming-of-age film Booksmart and Them That Follow (with Olivia Colman), and she gushes about “loving” her job, being “lucky” and feeling “privileged”.
